Described by the colonial architect James Barnet as being in the style of Italian Renaissance "somewhat of the Venetian type", the Department of Lands building was another gem we saw on our great Open Sydney day of adventure.
There were two of the what I call "elephant houses" on top of this pretty sandstone building - and we were super lucky enough to climb up into one! We climbed into the one used as a meeting room. Can you believe it! Gee, if I "had" to go up there for meetings I think I'd faint from happiness! Below you can see a photo I took from the window of the meeting room. It's a shot of the second elephant house which I think is used for storage.
Oh! they do look like those elephant contraptions! I won't be able to see them another way now :)
