What I've been up to...

Above is a drawing I did of two sisters over the weekend. It's called Sisters II because I already have a Sisters I as you may or may not recall. I've actually realised that I have a thing for drawing two gals together and that I have well over five "two gals together" prints in my shop now! I think I like the idea of sisters or best friends, compadres if you like. ...and these two gals are in my shop!

 

Also on the weekend, I went to The Museum of Sydney to check out the Martin Sharp retrospective exhibition. Sharp is a famous Sydney pop artist but more on him later - he deserves an entire post to himself - I'm thinking later in the week with any chance! However, I went to the shop at the museum and found some choice Sydney Harbour Bridge painting and lithograph postcards! Yippee because I collect postcards and images from the '30s of the bridge! Here above Sydney Bridge Celebrations 1932 by Adrian Feint, a front cover illustration of The Sydney Mail 1930 by 'F.W' and Building the Bridge by Ralph Emmerson Curtis 1933.

...and I've been thoroughly enjoying wearing the two delightfully pretty rings by Christina of Etsy shop Down and Out Chic (this is her gorgeous blog) seen here above on the right being modelled by Clyde that naughty rabbit. On the left Clyde is modelling a sweet pair of earrings handmade by Gabbi of beautiful blog Felinofelice! I feel very lucky indeed to have these in my earring collection - thank you so much Gabbi!

A Day at the Races

In Australia we have a major sporting event coming up soon. It's called The Melbourne Cup. This is the 3 minute horse race which famously "stops the nation". Literally. If you happen to be walking the streets of any city in Australia whilst the race is on you will feel like an extra out of Omega Man as you'll be entirely alone. Everyone else in indoors with their hats on eyes glued to the screen clutching their horse betting slips to their breast. It's on every year on the first Tuesday of November.

...and everyone has to wear a hat. I mean everyone. So, as you can imagine the shops here are full to the brim (sorry) with hats. Which leads me to my latest drawing: A Day at the Races! This lovely young thing wearing part fascinator part retro '40s glam hat is now in my shop! You can find her HERE.

Bianca

This is Bianca. She's a new drawing I finished on the weekend.

Bianca's a mega stylish gal and she adores a pussy bow as she feels it brings a touch of glamour to the most formal attire. I tend to agree with her. I think the 1930s were the golden age of pussy bows. Below is a young Joan Crawford in two 1930s Hollywood studio shots. She's working the pussy bow to her advantage me thinks!

Stefan and La farfalla rossa...

 

It's Monday!! Well, actually it's Monday night down here in Sydney. So here are two drawings I managed to do over the weekend: there is Stefan the rather pretty yellow birdie and below him there is La Farfalla Rossa or The red butterfly in Italian. Both are now in my shop as small prints!!

I hope everyone had a refreshing and relaxing weekend - very much looking forward to catching up with everyone's blog today!!

Agyness' new haircut...

I saw that Agyness Deyn had had a new haircut recently. I think she debuted it at London Fashion week. I liked it a lot - it was a cross between a Beatles' mop top and a Vidal Sassoon/ Peggy Moffitt pudding basin cut. It also reminded me a little of the Ramones - must be those long bangs.

The must have looks for Fall and Spring...

On the left we have the latest look for Fall (or Autumn as we say down here in Australia). Vests are big news with all the fashion houses having at least one version on the catwalk. Our model has teamed it with a black tie which is a nice contrast to the pale shirt worn underneath.

On the right we have the must have look for Spring. Notice again that vests are big news but they are in lighter fabrics and pastels are the preferred colour palette.

Our model for today is Jeremy. You can find these as prints in my shop here (Fall) and here (Spring).

I have very much enjoyed watching and reading all the reportage from the New York fashion shows. So much so that I felt compelled to do my own version. Stay tuned for the Winter and Summer collections!

 

The story thus far and beyond...

I've been drawing practically non-stop, that is when I'm not seeing wicked exhibitions at the MCA (More on that later!) and wandering around cherry blossom festooned jardins!

...So, just to fill new readers in: this is the story so far re-mermaid Jemima:She takes Harry for a walk, She has a shower with Nigella in her Underwater Boudoir and she is surprise by The Interloper.

...and here are two new episodes:

 

The drawing on the left is our hero Jemima and her BFF Nigella having a quiet night in. Jemima is knitting and Nigella is having a bit of a gossip with Frederick the shrimp.

On the right, we have Jemima leading her weekly Crustacean Calisthenics class a service she provides free to all portly crabs, prawns and horseshoe crabs who live in her area.What a thoughtful doll she is!

This just in...

Just a short post to let you know about an interview and giveaway I did over at Jess' beautiful blog Epheriell Designs.

Meanwhile, another weekend drawing. This young lad is called The Cosmopolitan - for reasons all cocktail lovers will understand..and yes! he can be seen strutting his stuff in my shop here!

The Sisters.

This is a drawing I have been working on today. They are two sisters - the older one on the left is taking her younger sister out for the night. It's the younger sister's first grown up evening out. Maybe she's 16. She looks a bit dreamy and the older one is a little amused by her but is also very fond and protective of her at the same time. This pretty pair are now available in my shop as a small print! You can find them here!

I think it must be rather nice to have a sister - especially when you get along with them! Here are some other sets of stylish sisters that I rather like.

Dorothy and Lillian Gish. Born in the late 1800s, Lillian was the oldest but both of them began their acting careers in 1912 and were stars of the silent screen before moving on to "talkies" and the stage. They continued to act
until the late '60s (Dorothy) and '80s (Lillian).

Catherine Devueve and Francoise Dorleac with Jacqus Demy. Lovely Catherine everyone probably knows but her pretty sister is a little less well known due to the fact she died tragically in a car crash at the age of 26.

 
The Dolly Sisters. These two sisters, actually twins, were born in Hungary in 1892 and then emigrated to The States in 1905. They were famous for their dancing but were equally as famous for their spectacular private lives which included scandalous affairs and tragedy.
