The Great Gatsby

The first reviews are starting to trickle in from Cannes for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby. They are a little luke warm so far. I've seen the trailer and it looks like it's a classic Luhrmann production: glamorous, over the top, lavish and spectacular in scale but not terribly deep. However, as one person pointed out, it's just entertainment, isn't it? It's not intended to be the answer to the world's problems. Have you seen the trailer? Here it is here.

I think at the very least the costumes and production design will be fun to look at.

Mad Men season 6

So, I have been watching Mad Men season 6 (bien sûr) and there's a lot to like so far. Sure there's been some patchiness. For example, I didn't care for episode 2. I thought it was boring and had a lazy script. But! Episodes 3 and 4 have been fine, fine, fine telly to say the least. Here's five things I've been liking...

1. Megan's wardrobe, Joan's wardrobe...actually everybody's wardrobe. So right on and happening for 1968! Here's just a selection of my favourite outfits so far...

2. Michael Ginsberg. I hope they write him in a bit more. He always has some angsty/ serious/ amusing thing going on.

3. Peggy! I love how she's moving on up in the world but retaining her integrity. I love that she's got such a cool boss who thinks she's the bees's knees. I love that she's got that hip journalist boyfriend who isn't fazed by her high flying corporate success.

4. Pete's side burns.

5. ...and Roger. The whole episode lifts by about five notches whenever he's in a scene. It's a dreary episode when he's not around.

Hello! I hope everyone's week has been a happy one! I have my Friday links here for you to browse and two photos by American photographer Annie Leibovitz. I picked these up at an exhibition she had here in Sydney at the MCA not so long ago. The expression on that baby's face is priceless! I love the colours and composition of the nude too. It was a very good exhibition because I saw plenty of photos there that were pretty wonderful and a little different to the celebrity/ Vanity Fair type portraits I was so familiar with.

I love that word don't you? Besotted. Well, I am besotted with these necklaces and earrings by Laura Lombardi. I'm not usually one for geometrics and minimalism, but these have captured my heart! See more of Laura Lombardi's beautiful creations here.

Efforts To Harmonize My Charm And Talent With Being A Biological Charnel House

This serious creature is a performer in a Bauhaus ballet circa 1926 - 1927 called The Triadic Ballet. It's on a postcard I bought at a recent exhibition I went to at the Art Gallery here in Sydney. The exhibition was called The Mad Square: Modernity in German Art 1910 - 1937. It was pretty interesting. I liked looking at all the Bauhaus bits and pieces and the various other exhibits but the standout favourite for me was the room that had paintings by Christian Schad. Wow! He sure knew how to paint!

In other news, it being Friday, it is Happy Friday links day! Here is my selection of what caught my eye out there in cyberspace this week:

I absolutely adore these two pieces. The top one is a handmade vintage fringe copper necklace and below that is an archer bracelet which are both by Laura Lombardi. They are available for purchase on the ever stylish Shop Pour Porter. ...and for summer, I think this pretty, pretty garland necklace by Lauren Manoogian is perfection. This is, unfortunately, sold out I think, but I love it all the same!
