Joel Penkman

Sweet art and teacups from New Zealand born graphic designer Joel Penkman. He has a very pretty way of painting these everyday treats, don't you think? Apparently, according to his website, he grinds his own paint and prepares the painting surfaces himself. This must take forever, but he says he does this to get the desired effect he's after. I thought it was about time I drew another pussy cat! This is The Dinner Guest. I think anyone who's ever had the pleasure of befriending a pussy cat would know this routine pretty well. That beseeching look! "Pleeeease can I have a little bit of whatever it is you're having!" Actually, I think they know what it is you're having because they can smell it! All the pussy cats I've had have done this. Ah! I do love them so! :0)

SweetAmbs Cookies + cat cups

I've had Amber Spiegel's cookies in my favourites at Etsy forever! This morning I felt like it was time I let the world know about these beauties! Amber is a graduate of the Baking and Pastry Arts program at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Her cookies have been featured in InStyle magazine. She does custom orders but there are also plenty to choose from in her Etsy shop which you can click on here--> SweetAmbs.

...and while we're on the subject of cookies, I think a nice cup of tea always goes down a treat with your favourite sweet biscuit. These charming cups and plates are from the Amsterdam based Etsy shop House of Harriet.

I think any self-respecting pussy cat lover will find it hard to resist not putting these on his/ her Christmas wish list (not mentioning any names or anything...*cough* *cough*).

Macaron heaven

Theurel and Thomas have the most amazing store devoted entirely to their macarons in Mexico. It really is macaron heaven. Designed by Anagrama, these interiors are elegance personified the way they showcase the macarons in all their delicate beauty against the stark white.

I've only recently become a macaron connoisseur. My Dad  introduced me to the delights of these fine meringue, almond power and sugar confections a few months back. I've become such a connoisseur that I've discovered that just because a macaron looks lovely, it ain't necessarily so! However, I think these ones pictured here at Theurel and Thomas would be pretty amazing. I don't know why I think that - intuition I suppose! ;0)

Rebecca Wilson's Finest Paperware

These lovely and unusual pieces are by Scottish ceramicist Rebecca Wilson. They were made for a group exhibition currently showing from June to September 2011 at Flow Gallery in London. This work comments on our throw away culture and transforms the humble disposable paper cup into something to be treasured and kept.

A late plate wall.

I've just squeaked in to qualify for Shadow Shot Sunday! Phew! I've actually had to dig deep into my archives for an image as it's been nothing but rain here in Sydney for a good week or so now. I quite like the rain so long as it's not torrential and there's no wind and I don't have to walk in it!

The window reflection shot is starting to become a signature photo for me I think! I like shooting in windows because you get two images for the price of one! This is a window display in an up market interior decoration store on Macleay Street, Potts Point. I like the red, those chic black and white plates by someone famous who's name escapes me and the shadowy street in the reflection.

On the street where I live + Shadow Shot Sunday

This is my Shadow Shot Sunday photo of one of my favourite streets in Sydney and I feel very lucky indeed to live just around the corner from it. It's called Macleay Street and it runs from Kings Cross down to Potts Point where it turns into Wylde Street and then curves down the hill past the naval vessels moored at Woolloomoolloo/ Garden Island and Russell Crowe's house!! True!

Pieces of Sydney: A Saturday amble.
