I was ambling through the city this afternoon and finally managed to take a good look at the University of Technology's new Business school building - The Dr.Chau Chak Wing Building. It is by world famous architect Frank Gehry and it was a total treat to see! I only had my iPhone with me at he time, but I think you get a fairly good idea of what it's like from my photos. "Crumpled brown paper bag" is something I think I heard it described as. It is utterly fantastic and I love it!
The Royal Tenenbaums is my favourite Wes Anderson film. I think it was a combination of the quirky story line, the terrific cast (Gene Hackman, Bill Murray, Angelica Huston, Gwyneth Paltrow etc), and the very fine production design that really appealed to me. The costumes (Gwyneth Paltrow's retro Calvin Klein tennis dresses and fur coat, Ben Stiller's strange red tracksuit etc etc) and the sets (red zebra wall paper etc) are distinctively in the Wes Anderson signature style, but also unique to this particular movie. And even though Wes Anderson had already done well with his first two previous films (Bottle Rocket and Rushmore), it was The Royal Tenebaums that really launched his career as a major film director.
