My favourite Oscar looks

I guess any internet surfer worth their weight has already fully scrutinised the Oscar frocks. After all, it was a full day and a half ago that the net was saturated with all things Oscar! However, I'd like to add my two cents too! So, here are my favourite looks from the evening...

Much has been said about Angelina Jolie's Oscar frock....and that leg. Well, I'd like to think the woman has a sense of humour and that she's vamping it up as some sort of comment on previous press about her choice in red carpet looks or...something. Well, that's what I'd like to think anyway. But, really, at the end of the day, I think she looks pretty sensational in all that plush black velvet. Emma Stone, to my mind, looks super stylish and that colour is stunning on her.

Absolutely adore Gwyneth's cape - she is the red carpet super hero! Milla Jovovich is Hollywood personified!

I am a huge Rose Byrne fan. Not just because she's a local Sydney gal, but because she's incredibly pretty and a fab actor to boot! This liquid sequin black number is ravishing on her.

Mad Men countdown

Website amctv has a Mad Men countdown clock. As I write, Mad Men season 5 is approximately 28 days, 6 hours and 51 minutes away. Be still my beating heart!

In other Mad Men news, there is an excellent article on the Guardian website in which bloggers, reviewers and commentators write about their favourite Mad Men scene. It really is an excellent read. I found myself agreeing with a lot of their choices. Maybe you will too! Happy Monday all!

Joel Penkman

Sweet art and teacups from New Zealand born graphic designer Joel Penkman. He has a very pretty way of painting these everyday treats, don't you think? Apparently, according to his website, he grinds his own paint and prepares the painting surfaces himself. This must take forever, but he says he does this to get the desired effect he's after. Love part 4 - Most Romantic Artwork

So, today is Valentine's Day and the last instalment of my love posts (read post 1, post 2, post 3). Apparently, this painting of Romeo and Juliet on their wedding night has been voted the most romantic artwork in Britain. It was painted by Frank Bernard Dicksee in 1884. I couldn't categorically agree that it is the most romantic artwork in Britain as I haven't done any thorough research into the matter myself, but I would say yes, it's on the romantic side. What are your thoughts? Second runner up in the romantic artwork stakes was Rodin's The kiss.

Love part 3 - Questionable opening lines and first dates

Love part 2 - Epic love triangle

When someone says "epic love triangle" to me I immediately think of George Harrison, Pattie Boyd and Eric Clapton. I'm sure there have been other epic love triangles, but none that are as recent or legendary as this one. Pattie had a thing for iconic guitarists and they had a thing for her. She had several love songs written for her by these two gentlemen; the three most famous being Something, Layla and Wonderful Tonight. Incidentally, Frank Sinatra said Something was the best love song ever written.

As you may or may not know, Pattie Boyd was a model and the "It" girl of swinging sixties London when she first met George Harrison. They met on the set of "A Hard Day's Night" and instantly fell in love. Two years later they were married. However, George was allegedly a bit of a philanderer and when he was not allegedly philandering he was meditating. Meanwhile, George's close friend Eric Clapton starting pursuing the lovely Pattie in a most romantic manner. Several years of the epic love triangle followed. Anyway, one thing led to another and Pattie ended up leaving George for Eric.

Pattie was with Eric for a decade or so before they too divorced. She is now a well thought of photographer and the author of a book about her famous loves and life called Wonderful Today: George Harrison, Eric Clapton and Me.

Love part 1 - unrequited love

Apparently it's Valentine's Day on Tuesday. In celebration of this event I have decided to do a few posts around the afore mentioned day. My first post is Unrequited Love. To my mind, unrequited love is perfectly illustrated by Lucy and Schroeder's relationship in Peanuts. Lucy famously adores the Beethoven playing bachelor boy Schroeder. Schroeder, however, only has eyes for Beethoven. Despite this, Lucy never flags in her quest for his love and attention.

Tom

This is Tom the red-eared fire tailed finch. He has red ears because he's quite sensitive about people talking about him. Mostly it is good things that are said, but occasionally he might hear something that isn't so great. For example, his nephew said he was a poor chess player. This upset Tom because he intentionally lets his nephew win every time they play together. Also, his great aunt mentioned to his mother that she thought she saw him playing marbles in the street like a vagrant. But his great aunt is as blind as a bat and it wasn't him at all but some other bloke who bears a passing resemblance to him. Is it any wonder poor Tom's ears are permanently red?
