Hello from Sydney this fine Sunday! These two shadowy Art Deco sandstone sculptures are from Fitzroy Gardens, Melbourne. The top one is a mermaid with a fish/ dolphin (?) and the bottom one is a boy with a pelican. Apparently the sculptor William Leslie Bowles won first prize with these figures in the Fitzroy Gardens Sculpture Competition which was held in 1935. My intrepid boyfriend took these two shots for me in Melbourne. I rather like Art Deco sculpture for its pared down aesthetic.
Did you know...that shadow shot Sunday is a meme set up by Tracy of Hey Harriet? Did you also know that you are more than welcome to join in - all you need to do is read the instructions here.
Happy Sunday!

The mermaid is lovely, the art-deco style adding a slightly abstract look to both mammals. The sea creature looks so much like a pet, the bond between both readily apparent...The pelican looks to be receiving directions from the boy - perhaps he is ordering a certain kind of fish for dinner. The pelican will happily oblige, getting ready for the dive and fulfilling the order in his pouch. Great captures!

Oh, the pelican boy is definitely my favourite!
SHADOW, SHADOW
(With apologies to William Blake)
Shadow, shadow lurking dark
In a corner of the park,
What immortal eye can see
Your transcendent symmetry?

These are beautiful garden sculptures that your boyfriend captured! I like the second one best!
Don't you just love Ralph's comments!?! They're always so expressive and thoughtful!
PS - re your comment on my blog... Noisy hipsters in cafes annoy me too! Most of my coffee drinking is done at home but on work days I tend to visit a lot of cafes as part of my work. It's one of the perks of the job. I just happily sip my coffee, ignoring the noisy hipsters and pretending they're not there :)
Hope you've had a super weekend Sam! xo
