The Librarian + sale in my shop!

The Librarian

It was perfect walking weather here in Sydney at the weekend so I managed to get a very lovely long walk in yesterday. I think this is my favourite time of year in Sydney as it's warm but there's usually a cool breeze and my favourite tree in the entire universe is flowering! Stay tuned for some photos of what I saw on my walk tomorrow!

Meanwhile, this is The Librarian. Young Mary works in a local library that is small but perfectly formed. The library has all her favourite authors whose works she is slowly working through in her lunch breaks.  As you can imagine she enjoys working there immensely!

Centennial Park Shadows

For my Shadow Shot this week I have a photo I took on a blindingly hot day last summer in Centennial Park. I think you can sort of tell it was hot just by looking at the sky. Anyway, this statue stands on a very tall plinth in the garden next to the rose garden. I've never been able to find out what the statue is but I've always admired it. The cheeky magpie casting a shadow over the face of the statue makes me laugh. I don't know why I think it's funny when a bird stands on the head of a statue, but I do!

This beautiful creature is by Czech artist Alphnose Mucha (1860 - 1939). I think if you were to look up the definition of "Art Nouveau" in the dictionary, you'd just find a painting by Mucha there. No other explanation needed. I think he is the grand master of Art Nouveau. My mind boggles as to how he managed to tame all those floaty elements in his paintings and make them look natural and "correct".

Fashion X 2

There are two things fashion related that I'm very much appreciating at the moment. The first is Victoria Beckham's cat print shifts. I know I'm a little late to the party here. After all, the world did first see them a whole month ago but I still love them anyway!

The second thing I am very much enjoying is browsing the Face Hunter blog. Everyone knows about The Sartorialist but do they know about the Face Hunter? Below is one of his elegant finds.

Julia Rothman: Pattern Queen

Julia Rothman is a painter and illustrator from Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. She also has one of my favourite blogs: Book By Its Cover.

Aspeci - Milano

Italian luxury sportswear brand Aspeci has a rather lovely, recently launched (September '11), online store. These photos of the Milan Aspeci store are from their new online website. Filled with colourful installations of creatures and flowers, the space looks like a feast for the senses and would be fun to explore. It's not something I would expect from a traditional sportswear clothes store!

It is now officially on my "to visit" list next time I'm in Milan (along with the cathedral)!

White flower shadows

Hello! Something a bit different for me today for my shadow shot. I have been posting a lot of buildings recently but today I have some pristine white flowers I found in the Botanic Gardens, Sydney. I'm afraid I don't know the name of these pretties but looking at them reminds me of a dream garden I'd love to have one day. If I had a garden, I would plant it with many different varieties of white flowers. I just think that would be magic! I first saw this idea on a National Trust documentary about  Sissinghurst Castle which was Vita Sackville-West's property. She had arranged her garden into beds and "rooms" devoted to one colour only. I just thought that was the best idea! You can see some photos of Sissinghurst here.
