Happy Monday! This is my new drawing/ print. It is Ruby and the name of the print is Tenacity is my Secret. I think that's a fairly good motto to live by myself. It's a bit like "Never give up" I suppose. Anyway, she is a very striking looking creature with her alabaster skin and jet black hair. I think she possibly has many projects on the boil and is full of exciting plans!

Ah! Now that's what I call a pool! Surely that is something I can aspire to - a cat shaped swimming pool! It's the first thing on my list when I win the lottery! It has been unbearably, yes, let's call a spade a spade - unbearably hot and humid here in Sydney this week - and I've often dreamt of splashing about in a conveniently located (cat shaped) swimming pool in the afternoon. However, it is a reasonable temp today and I didn't pass any melted pedestrians, myself included, on the way home this afternoon.

I happened upon an Etsy shop recently that really caught my eye. It's called Atelier Conti and it's based in France but the husband and wife team originally hail from the San Francisco Bay area. Nancy Wilson, the artist, and her husband, Richard Harrison, the printer, make up the Atelier Conti team.

Happy Wednesday! For your viewing pleasure I bring you the divine new haute couture collection by John Galliano for Christian Dior. He was inspired by the French fashion illustrator René Gruau (I did a post on Gruau here). I think they are heavenly and if I had a spare wad of cash lying around I'd pop over to Paris and have a couple of fittings with Mr.Galliano and get him to run me up a couple of frocks! I think you'd feel like the most beautiful woman on earth in one of these ravishing dresses!
However, as much as I adore the dresses, it's this photo of Galliano from the show (below) that I like the best. What a guy! Phew! Talk about 'tude!

This is Ursula. Ursula is a 1940s goddess. She's got a complicated roll up-do that always makes my mind boggle. How did she do that? She's also right on trend with her smart cinched in waist and sharp shoulders. Her long sleeves have the fashionable military style detailing of stylised chevrons. She's also laying her cards on the table which happen to be a couple of hearts - very appropriate seeing as Valentine's Day is just around the corner.

Awww! As you may already know, I am a "cat" person. However, I have a huge spot in my heart for most furry peeps, especially pooches. I adore these guys and gals - so sweet! Their faces are soooo expressive!
These photos are part of a series by artist Martin Usborne for his project Mute: The Silence of Dogs in Cars. The aim of the work was to capture that feeling of "being alone and unheard". I think they are very fine indeed.

I found these sweeties online the other day. They are made by illustrator and all round creative talent Emily Sutton. I think they are so pretty! She also makes things out of wood, illustrates books and has her prints for sale on her website here: emillustrates.

Hello and Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a super weekend! I feel I must have had a good weekend as I can't remember it! Either that or it went by so quickly I missed it....However, I did draw a new gal for my collection of gals: this is Adelaide. I think she's from a different era to last week's Jools. I feel she may be of the Belle Époque which was that golden age between the late 19th Century up to the beginning of World War One. I think Adelaide lived in some glamorous European city (think Paris or Berlin) and was very adapt at holding soirees where the toast of the scientific and artistic community would gather to drink champagne and nibble caviar. What do you think? Sounds like fun doesn't it?

This is the sleek minimalist work of Spanish Art Deco illustrator Eduardo Garcia Benito. His work is so paired down it makes my head spin. I'm also very interested in the colour palette he used which I don't think anyone these days would ever dream of using. I forget sometimes that colour in art is as much an indicator of it's place in time as the actual image itself.
Meanwhile, it is super humid and hot in Sydney today. Actually, it's been that way all week. Still, it's nothing to grumble about - I hear the floods have engulfed poor Brisbane. My thoughts go out to those poor people up there. Fingers crossed it all starts subsiding soon.....and here's that link again for the Queensland Flood Relief Appeal. This is Jools. A stunningly lovely and elegant creature straight from the 1920s. She's one of those beautiful people with a superb eye for clothes.I thoroughly enjoyed drawing Jools - she is a return to the art deco girls set I've been quietly noodling aways at for the past few years.

...and on a more sombre note, I'd just like to send my heartfelt thoughts of support and sympathy to all those poor folk up in Queensland and Northern NSW who are experiencing the devastating floods at the moment.
