Tomorrow's the last day of work folks and then we have a four (count 'em) day holiday! How good is that? Yippeee!

 

 

Meanwhile, back at the lab...

I left work Friday afternoon, ran home in the heat (yes, that's right, we are sweltering in humid heat again here in Sydney) and...well that was it! I stayed at home for the rest of the weekend drawing, watching bits of not so great movies and reading Patricia Cornwell crime novels. Does anyone else ever do that or is it just me? It just felt so necessary somehow! I felt like a caterpillar inside a cocoon transforming myself into...well me again.

Speaking of butterflies *ahem* here is the Patron Saint of Butterflies. She's a bit different for me and a bit of an experiment. This time I was experimenting with more black. I am very partial to black - I like its solidness and blackness. Hmmmm.... So I think I can feel a series coming on. I've already drawn The Patron Saint of Rabbits, The Patron Saint of Humming birds and now butterflies....who's next?

And...another experiment: The Pink Parrot. This time a simpler design but one I intend to explore further. So keep your eyes out for more parrots in cages and themes along those lines in the coming weeks!

Shadow Shot Sunday!

My Shadow Shot for this Sunday is a collection of cormorants (I think) artfully arranged on a tree stump at dusk in Centennial Park. 

I love Centennial Park because it is packed to the brim with birds. I think one day I counted over 30 different bird species in a half hour walk! One day it is my mission to photograph and draw them all!

Oh my goodness...happy Friday!

 

This is so me this weekend! Not that I have such a glamorous bath or that I would wear such hats in such a glamorous bath if I had one but...What a week! I can't even remember it - I think it was OK-ish and maybe there were even bits of wow! But as always very full - on (does anyone still say "full - on" or is it just me?).

Hump Day Special

I was lucky enough to stumble upon this family picnic when I had a stroll through Centennial Park last weekend.

Thank you swan family - particularly you fuzzy signets! I was quite surprised actually because I had the idea that birds hatch their eggs in Spring but as we are now in Autumn I guess I was wrong!

Dorothy and Bonnie. Experiments in pattern! Usually I am the smudgy mono colour person but I felt compelled to try out a bit of pattern in these two. Hmmmm...could be a bit of something to be continued!So pleased today has ended. Felt a bit flat today for one reason or another - mostly the other!

So, I made a pact with myself: go home and no matter how tired you are, draw! And I did and my spirits have lifted considerably! I'm really not sure what it is about drawing which I find so fulfilling. Maybe it's the completion of something? Maybe it's the control? Maybe it's the delight in creation or the utter aloneness and solitude you get when you're in "the zone"? Possibly it's a combo of all of the above!

Shadows cast by frangipani trees which are flowering at the moment in Sydney. I took this photo last weekend and it was a good thing too as there's no sun at all today. Actually, just as I typed that last sentence out popped the sun! I should try that trick more often!

Happy Friday Found!

Awwww! Being someone who has experienced the terrible pain of having a dearly adored significant furry other "disappear" on them I rejoiced the other day when I saw this poster. My heart always contracts a little when I see those other posters for "Cat Lost" and "Have you seen my Tiddles?". Poor people! 

So this is my Happy Friday Post! Break out the champers for it is truly Friday and the weekend loometh!! Have a lovely one all!

The Pink Pussy Cat!

This is Poppy who has a very quirky'n'cute fancy dress costume to wear this evening to the ball: A Pink Pussy cat outfit complete with canary. So, naturally enough this drawing is called The Pink Pussy Cat.

I hope everyone had a super weekend! Mine was spent frantically drawing - I felt a little possessed actually by the drawing muse last weekend for some reason and have lots more drawings which I have up my sleeve which I shall post later! 

Sydney is starting to become a little bit gorgeous - autumnal type gorgeous and I adore it!

Shadow Shot Sunday: a - maze - ing!

Behold ladies and gentlemen! The tiniest, most easily escapable maze in the universe! It comes up to your waist therefore you can plainly see the exit route. But....I love it! Every time I pass it - it's a hop skip and a jump from my place - I have to run in and do the circuit. My long suffering boyfriend rolls his eyes and sighs and holds whatever it is I have on me - usually a bottle of mineral water or something - and patiently waits for me to run around it. I just think it's so sweet someone decided to plant it in such a small spot for the local area's amusement. Thank you to whoever did that!
