All hands on deck for Shadow Shot Sunday...

Shadows within shadows...a huge poster of pinup girls that was in the museum at Garden Island. Garden Island is Sydney's Naval base. Most of it is off limits due to security reasons but they have recently opened up the very tip of the "island" for tourists and curious Sydney  siders. Along with the museum, there is a small lookout where you can get an interesting view of the city and harbour.

Shadow Shot Sunday is the brain child of Tracy - that top photographer of Hey Harriet fame! Absolutely anybody can join in the fun and here are the instructions on how to do so!

Meanwhile, here are more shots from my adventure on Garden island two weeks ago...it was a bit of a grey, humid, rainy day so the photos looks a bit hazy...

I've actually got the day off today (sounds of crowds applauding and cheering off screen) as it's Australia Day. Helicopters are buzzing overhead shooting footage of the harbour races and festivities and the crickets are singing in the trees obviously enjoying the heat and humidity (blergh!) we are already experiencing at 11AM.

Shadow Shot Sunday rides again!

For my Shadow Shot Sunday photo this week I present to you the grand old Victorian gates of the Botanical Gardens in Sydney. I had quite a fine time hunting out shadowy things last Sunday in the gardens! I also managed to get some pretty flowers, berries and grass shots. I always think Spring is the time for flowers but the gardens this hot Summer seem to be brimming over with bees, berries and flowers!

Speaking of bees, I'd just like to mention that Shadow Shot Sunday is the bee's knees! It's a highly addictive meme set up by that sunny Brisbane gal Tracy of Hey Harriet fame! Absolutely anyone can join in the fun and here are your instructions on how to do so.

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. After yesterday's very hot start we had the most amazing cool change at about 4PM! A very strong cool gale swept in from the south and brought a thunderstorm and some rain with it. The temperature dropped about 16 degrees in less than half and hour! It was quite fun actually!

Happy Friday everyone....It really didn't come a moment too soon....

This weekend is ramping up to be seriously hot here in Sydney. Today is hot but tomorrow is going to be even hotter and boggy humid urgh! The ice tray is going to get a good work out this weekend I can tell. Good weather to float around the house with the fan going and an endless supply of iced teas at the ready!

My new cutie!

I love, love love my new Felinofelice dolly!! Isn't she gorgeous? She's neat and petite! She's a red headed cutie and I adore her to bits!! You might want to keep an eye on Gabbi's shop - she might make some more!

I think I'll call her Lucie. What do you think?

Shadow Shot Sunday : An avenue of Moreton Bay Figs

My Shadow Shot Sunday photo for today is of some rather hairy looking Moreton Bay Figs growing in Nielson Bay Park. Actually, I'm not 100% sure they are Moreton Bay Figs as we have quite a few species of fig in Sydney and Australia for that matter. They are pretty wonderful though with their trailing roots sprouting from the branches. These roots you can see here are hopefully going to reach the ground and support the ever increasing size of the branches and trunk. A Moreton Bay can grow to 60 meters in height.

The figs of Australia are relatives of the mighty Asian Banyan tree. I was lucky enough to see a Banyan tree when I went to the Botanical Gardens in Singapore several years ago and it had taken over the entire park! I think these figs secretly have plans to do the same sort of thing in Sydney!

Plans for the weekend...

Happy weekend all! If I had my way this weekend, I'd jump on a plane and fly to New York. Once there I'd check in to my hotel (somewhere grand) and immediately head over to MOMA and check out the Lee Friedlander photographs which I have been very much getting into of late...

They make me feel wistful and unsettled at the same time. The feeling of being unsettled actually intrigues me deeply.  Hmmm...I think after having a look at his work I'd go have a dry martini somewhere in some beautiful art deco building. Either that or I'd go down Fifth Avenue and do some window shopping.

3 X couture rooms

Pretty, pretty! The top interior is from the Pucci Palace in Florence which has recently been renovated by Pucci's widow. This room is called "The Wedgwood Room".

The next interior is a room in Yves Saint Laurent's couture house in Paris. It is now a museum dedicated to art and fashion. The sketches around the walls are by YSL himself which he did for the 1964 production of The Marriage of Figaro at the Théâtre de l’Odéon in Paris.

Below is a set of cushions and sofas which have been covered by fabric designed by Kenzo.
